Sand plant's downside
| Concerned Chippewa Citizens was formed when we learned that Canadian Sand and Proppant has been working for some time with city and county officials to pave the way for a silica sand processing plant in Chippewa Falls. Small notices of annexation and rezoning were published in the Chippewa Herald, but there was no end user named and no mention of sand. The negative aspects of this project have been and continue to be seriously understated. Our Web site, www.ccc-wis.com, is an attempt to assemble information for the public on this heavy industry attempting to move into our city claiming to be a good neighbor. We believe that Chippewa Falls has "an outstanding environment to raise our families, work in and retire to" as stated in our city's mission statement, and we want to keep it that way. Too many citizens of Chippewa Falls are still not aware that we are slated to become a heavy industrial mining town with the attendant visual, diesel and particulate pollution.
